Beyond

What can you see today
beyond the grey walls  of order,
beyond the vast sheets of glass,
beyond this caging of your soul.

Do you hear silence above the mechanical din of progress,
or just the mashing and spitting of tortured existence.

Where will your mind escape to.
A moments daydream, snatched from the jaws of grinding drudgery,
to an Eden that persists beyond our efforts to destroy,
to a tree in a forest with leaves dripping with summer rain
and a beauty far beyond the monetary efforts of man to build yet another concrete phallus.
And irony laughs, for the tree is fertile, and the phallus forever barren.
